Seattle Police Department reassigning SHA Community Police Team officers

The Seattle Police Department (SPD) has informed SHA that effective October 1, SPD Community Police Team (CPT) officers will be reassigned to general patrol and will no longer be exclusively serving SHA communities and residents. SPD leadership was forthcoming in describing the challenges they face in terms of staffing and their efforts to continue to provide services to residents across all of Seattle.

SHA and its residents have benefitted from the services of the CPT officers for 15 years. The service of these full-time SPD officers focused on caring for residents through relationship building in SHA’s low-income public housing buildings, Seattle Senior Housing Program residences and mixed-income family communities. SHA expressed continuing great appreciation for their efforts and services in SHA communities.

SHA is currently examining service needs and will remain engaged with residents in determining how to best respond to needs that may arise while adjusting to the end of the partnership with SPD.

Here is information for SHA residents on services available to meet various needs moving forward:

  • SHA residents in crisis should call 9-1-1 and will be responded to by the appropriate first responders (Seattle Police, Fire or Medical, depending on the situation).
  • SHA residents in Low-Income Public Housing and the Seattle Senior Housing Program can continue using service providers such as Aging and Disability Services (ADS) and Full Life Care to access mental health care supports and other services.
  • SHA residents in the Yesler, High Point, Rainier Vista and NewHolly communities can continue using the services of Neighborhood House for mental health care supports and other services.
  • Families who are seeking support for youth who are at risk of being impacted by community violence can request a referral for services from Community Passageways or Point One North.

For access to any of the above services, residents should contact their SHA Community Builder, Education and Youth Engagement Specialist or Property Management team. If unsure how to reach these SHA staff, residents can call SHA at 206.239.1589 or visit the seattlehousing.org website, select Contact Us and then Contact Property Manager.
