SHA partners with the City of Seattle to host COVID-19 vaccine clinics at SHA's senior housing buildings

The Seattle Housing Authority has been in close contact with public health officials, the City of Seattle, area medical providers and others about getting vaccines to SHA tenants.  On Jan. 25, Seattle Fire Department Mobile Vaccination Teams began on-site vaccination clinics at SHA’s senior housing buildings, visiting one or two buildings a day. To date they have vaccinated 350 people at five locations.

“The importance of the City’s efforts and the mobilization of Seattle Fire Department vaccination teams to reach underserved and vulnerable people in our community cannot be overemphasized,” said Andrew Lofton, Executive Director of the Seattle Housing Authority. “More than two-thirds of our residents are elderly or disabled, and for many English is their second language. The City’s commitment to on-site vaccination at SHA housing locations is critical to ensuring that the thousands of low-income people we serve in Seattle are included in the vaccination effort."

Additional buildings are being scheduled as the SFD gets vaccine supply. Residents are being notified as soon as their building is scheduled. The vaccinations are available to any building resident meeting the eligibility criteria set by the state, which now includes everyone 65 and older. They are free and no insurance is required. Each building is scheduled for a second dose on-site clinic three to four weeks after the first. SHA is continuing efforts to bring vaccination clinics to other communities.

Because notice of vaccine clinics is often short, it's important to make sure that SHA has your current email address and mobile phone number.

Here’s what residents need to know if they learn their building is scheduled:

  • SHA typically is given short notice on clinic dates so please make yourself available when your building is going to be served.
  • For residents to be vaccinated they will need their picture identification and insurance card (if insured).
  • Residents should wear a short sleeve shirt or a shirt with a sleeve that's able to expose the upper arm.
  • Please expect to be on-site for about 45 minutes to register, receive the vaccine and be observed afterwards.
  • Interpretation services will be on-site.
  • Follow-up on-site clinics to get the required second dose are scheduled approximately 28 days after the first dose.
