Volunteer for digital equity: two opportunities

Seattle Housing Authority’s Digital Equity team is recruiting for two volunteer positions.

Volunteer Computer Technician

Volunteers are needed to maintain equipment and assist users in various computer labs in SHA communities.

Responsibilities – Update PC operating systems and ensure internet connectivity at various computer labs using Deep Freeze software. Additionally, they will assist resident users and volunteer lab monitors with computer-related issues.

Skills & experience - Ability to operate computer-related equipment such as monitors, printers, speakers, scanners, and Wi-Fi devices. Ability to diagnose and repair hardware/software issues. Experience working remotely and/or building a computer network is a plus. A background check and proof of COVID-19 vaccination are required. You must be at least 18 years old.

Time commitment - 3-5 hours per week 

Location - SHA technology labs in West Seattle, Central District, Capitol Hill neighborhoods

Broadband Volunteer

Volunteers are needed to help SHA tenants sign up for the Federal Communications Commission’s Emergency Broadband Benefit, a subsidy that aids households struggling to afford internet service during the COVID-19 pandemic. Affordable internet can help connect eligible households to jobs, critical healthcare services, virtual classrooms, and so much more. Responsibilities – Help tenants apply for the Broadband Benefit by assisting them in completing an online application.

Skills & Experience - Volunteers should be comfortable using online resources, completing online applications, and using online apps. Training will be provided. Volunteers who are comfortable working with people with low-incomes, immigrants and refugees are welcome to help. A background check and proof of COVID-19 vaccination are required. You must be at least 18 years old.

Time Commitment - 3-4 hours per week

Location - SHA technology labs in West Seattle, Central District, Capitol Hill neighborhoods
